تدور أحداث الفيلم منذ زمن قديم في اسكتلندا عن الأميرة (ميريدا)، التي تتحكم والدتها الملكة (إلينور) في كل ما تفعله، لكن الأميرة ترغب أن تغيّر مصيرها وأن تختاره بإرادتها الخاصة، لكنها تسلك طريقًا في هذا السبيل يعود بالمشاكل على المملكة بأسرها وعلى والدتها، مما يحتم عليها إعادة اﻷمور لنصابها واختبار جوهرها الحقيقي.
